First Air Responder (FAR) is a membership medical evacuation scheme with
dedicated personnel and equipment on the ground in both northern and
southern Tanzania (serving Zanzibar). The FAR fully integrated response
system is made up of: - 24 hour manned operations centres with personnel
trained to co-ordinate responses in Tanzania. - Internationally trained
professional medical response teams certified by UK National Health
Service Trusts. - Road and custom designed 4WD ambulances. - Fixed
winged and helicopter air ambulances.
All equipped with advanced life
support equipment including defibrillators, ECG, trauma kits,
resucitation equipment, vacuum and scoop stretchers, 7.5 hour oxygen
cylinders and life saving drugs. The service is initiated by one
telephone call to our emergency lines and an evacuation is carried out
through to admission and the first 24 hours charges at the hospital
nominated by the patient or next of kin in Dar es Salaam, Nairobi or
Mombassa.
FAR is designed to fill the gaps not filled by existing
medical insurers and assistance companies by having the personnel and
equipment on the ground in country trained and ready 24 hours a day 365
days a year. FAR is operated by Knight Support who have been offering
people in East Africa effective solutions to their medical and other
problems since 1999. Things on safari don't always go as planned -
that's part of the adventure.
