to bring back the classic African safari’s of the bygone era in our
exclusive luxurious eco friendly lodges.
Opened
in June 2010 Amara Selous was built on a dream, we wanted to set a new
benchmark of luxury in Tanzania and chose a unique location to build our
intimate tented lodge overlooking the rapids of the Great Ruaha River
and are honoured to be shortlisted as one of Tanzania’s leading safari
lodges in the 2012 World Travel Awards. It is the perfect choice for a
romantic break, honeymoon or family safari, we are family friendly and
are the only lodge in the Selous to have a dedicated children’s club.
We

game reserve and one of Tanzania’s UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Amara
Selous is a beautiful, remote and luxurious hideaway amidst the
pristine wilderness of the Selous, a luxury camp thoughtfully designed
by its creators to integrate the surrounding nature and reflect a deep
understanding and respect for its environment. Eco-conscious travellers
can be reassured that the camp operates inverter power, solar heated
showers along with a state-of-the-art waste water treatment plant to
recycle all the water, the only lodge in the Selous with this facility.
Our
twelve spacious tented suites offer air conditioning, amazing views
over the Great Ruaha River along with the utmost privacy and seclusion.
Each suite has en‐suite
indoor stone bathrooms and large outdoor showers where you are at one
with the elements of the wilderness and nature. One minute you will be
in awe of the “shower head” where water plummets like a waterfall from
stone slabs and the next you could see a unique bird or be paid a visit
by our resident elephant, George!
Relax and absorb the setting in the beautiful outside seating areas with large wooden viewing decks, sun‐beds,
and a private natural plunge pool – a blessed relief to cool down after
a dusty game drive or bush walk! You can even have a massage or
treatment in the privacy of your own terrace listening to the river
rapids, relaxation doesn’t get any better than this!
For resting, the suites come with plush, king‐sized
beds on which you will be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the
sprawling river and resident hippo and gently awoken by the early
morning orchestra of birdsong. Possibly the best way to fall asleep and
wake up to a new day of adventure and discovery!

wilderness has on offer.
Our guides daily track the wildlife in our
concession to provide the best Selous wilderness experience where every
day is about the discovery of the untamed wild.

seeing the wildlife but it’s about explaining how we locate them, how
best to photograph them, teaching our guests all we know about the
wildlife for a holistic safari experience.
