Ol Malo - Kenya

Situated on the northern edge of the Laikipia plateau, Ol Malo is nestled into a rugged escarpment looking out across the time-honoured lands of Kenya’s Northern Frontier District. Built, owned and managed by the Francombe family, with the help of the Samburu people, Ol Malo has established a reputation for first class service and tireless attention to detail. Rocky and Colin have been welcoming guests into their home for over 16 years.

Their son Andrew has joined them at the helm and is proving to be particularly popular with families as his sense of adventure and endless energy makes every guest’s experience unique. Every room in the intimate four bedroom lodge and beautiful 6 bedroom house is individually decorated, blending traditional local style with luxurious hand woven furnishings and thoughtful touches – a home away from home. Each spacious room has an ensuite bathroom and cascading shower, an oversize hot tub and private verandah There is no shortage of activities available at Ol Malo and each visit is tailor made to fit every guest.

The surrounding plains and valleys are teaming with game and provide regular sightings of wild dog and the elusive leopard is seen daily from the hide by the water hole. At Ol Malo, guests are encouraged to experience Kenya beyond the game viewing vehicle; walking and watching herds of elephant, riding with the rare grevy zebra and reticulated giraffe or trekking through the ancient Samburu lands with camels. Fly-camping on the shores of the river, listening to the Francombe’s stories of Kenya’s bygone age is an experience not to be missed.

Okavango Horse Safaris - Botswana

Founded by PJ and Barney Bestelink in 1986, this was the first riding Safaris Company in Southern Africa. The focus is a journey through the diverse landscape of the Okavango Delta and understanding of the ecosystem in this truly incomparable area. In offering a riding safari with OHS you are guaranteed a pristine wilderness with unique landscapes.

The concept of riding this area is very special, as horses wade through the shallow waters, swim through rivers, placing guests in areas unspoilt by human footprint. On horseback the experience of approaching wildlife and exploring the Delta places the rider at one with nature. The interaction between wildlife and horses is a natural relationship and every encounter is unique. Cantering through the floodwaters alongside the elephant motion of a giraffe is an experience that will never be forgotten.

Our specialised team of horses are classed within the industry as the best safari horses in the world, care is taken to match horse and rider, with top quality tack, excellent standard of guiding, personal attention and high standards of accommodation. We use 3 camps, Kujwana, luxury en-suite tents raised on teak deckings under fabulous natural canopy, Mokolwane, 2 metre high treehouses along the edge of the Matsibe River and Qwaapo Camp overlooking a beautiful hippo lagoon.

The remote camps are accessed by helicopter, based in private concession areas of over 2500 sq. kilometres. Apart of the main attraction of exploring on horses, guests will also experience the delta from mokoro, on foot and game drives with night drives. We take a maximum of 8 guests on 5, 7 or 10 night safari options and non-riders can be accommodated. This company is committed to responsible tourism, staff development and the protection of the Okavango Delta.
