Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse - South Africa
Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse is uniquely - and spectacularly - situated
on one of the largest wheat and sheep farms in South Africa’s beautiful
Western Cape region.
The Elandskloof mountains tower behind the farm's own Nature Reserve, a South African Natural Heritage Site which preserves 4000hectres of the Cape’s famous shrubland vegetation, known as West Coast Renosterveld.
The late Victorian farmhouse has been meticulously restored, and each room professionally and individually decorated with stylish fabrics and family antiques. The four double rooms have en-suite bathrooms with luxuriously deep ball-and-claw bathtubs, and are supplied with toiletries specially created for Bartholomeus Klip.
A separate suite looks out from its own verandah over the fynbos and up to the mountains. The warm welcome, friendly service and highly-praised food are part of the Bartholomeus Klip experience, with a team of chefs producing the gourmet meals.
However, self-catering is an option at the recently opened Wild Olive House, sited away from the main house, which has accommodation for groups of friends or families of up to eight.
The house has a leafy outdoor living area, private swimming pool and adjoining cottage, and is bright, charming and elegantly comfortable. Guests are taken on game drives twice daily through the reserve to see many different sorts of buck, including eland, springbok and black wildebeest, as well as zebras from the world-famous Quagga Project, and a great variety of wildflowers in the springtime.
The working farm has extensive wheatlands and large flocks of sheep, as well as an impressive 45-strong breeding herd of disease-free Cape buffalo. Apart from exploring the farm and the reserve, activities at Bartholomeus Klip include guided walks, mountain-biking, bird-watching, windsurfing on the dam, swimming in the salt-water pool with its marvellous views, and peacefully relaxing in the extensive gardens.

Bale Mountain Lodge - Ethiopia
Bale Mountain Lodge will be a 30 bed boutique forest lodge in the Bale
Mountains National Park (BMNP) of south central Ethiopia. Building has
commenced and it is anticipated that the lodge will be open for business
in the Autumn of 2013.
The lodge is the first private concession to be granted within an Ethiopian National Park and we aim to set the standard for conservation related tourism in this new and exciting market.
The location of the lodge has been selected to provide guests an excellent opportunity to experience a pristine wilderness that incorporates the largest tract of Afro-alpine moorland remaining on the continent, the majority being over 3800m above sea level, whilst living at 2400m in a stunning cloud forest which offers access to the rift valley and wider local attractions.
This amazing mix of habitats supports a myriad rare species, many endemic to Ethiopia and some found only within the park. 60% of the remaining Ethiopian Wolves, the world’s most rare carnivore, are found within the park; other species include the endemic Mountain Nyala, Menelik’s Bushbuck various rodent species, Black Maned Lions, rare Giant Forest Hogs and significant numbers of endemic or rare bird species.
Bale Mountain Lodge will offer the highest quality accommodation, food and service levels in Ethiopia whilst providing guests, through our Resident Naturalist, the opportunity to engage with the local community and with scientific research and conservation teams working in this unique location.
