Bumi Hills Safari Lodge - Zimbabwe

Bumi Hills Safari lodge boasts one of Africa’s finest wilderness locations with an elevated position on a range of remote hills overlooking the vastness of Lake Kariba. Bumi is easily accessible by light aircraft and boat, allowing you to be swiftly transported into paradise without the stress of a long journey.

You are welcomed into luxurious comfort by a team of staff that are unfailingly passionate and committed to ensuring your stay will forever be etched in a treasured part of your memory. The lodge has a total of twenty rooms, all with views over the lake.

Ten of the rooms are premium rooms with balconies and uninhibited views. The other ten are garden rooms with slated terraces, set a little way back behind and on a level above the premium rooms.

All rooms are air conditioned at night and during the day upon request. Taking centre stage is the beautiful infinity pool that seems to blend endlessly into the lake horizon. The pool is surrounded by intimate wine and dining terraces on different levels.

The lodge interiors have been beautifully finished in a fusion of contemporary Western and African styles. We are situated on an extensive private wildlife conservation area. Bumi Hills is home to lion, leopard, big herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as a multitude of different plains game. We have superb fishing in the lake waters surrounding the lodge with bream and the fighting tiger fish in abundance. Birding and cultural experiences also abound.

Botswana Tourism Organisation - United Kingdom

Botswana is well known for having some of the best wilderness and wildlife areas on the African continent. With a full 38 per cent of its total land area devoted national parks, reserves and wildlife management areas – for the most part unfenced, allowing animals to roam wild and free – travel through many parts of the country has the feeling of moving through an immense Nature wonderland.

In Botswana you can experience the stunning beauty of the world’s largest intact inland Delta – the Okavango; the world’s second largest game reserve – the Central Kalahari Game Reserve; the isolation and other-worldliness of the Makgadikgadi – uninhabited pans the size of Portugal; and the astoundingly prolific wildlife of the Chobe National Park.

Botswana is the last stronghold for a number of endangered bird and mammal species, including Wild Dog, Cheetch, Brown Hyena, Cape Vulture, Wattled Crane, Kori Bustard and Pel’s Fishing Owl. The first – and most lasting impressions – will be of vast expanses of uninhabited wilderness stretching from horizon to horizon, the sensation of limitless space, astoundingly rich wildlife and bird viewing, night skies littered with stars and stunning sunsets of unearthly beauty. Combine this with more and more cultural tourism options on offer – experiencing first hand the rich cultural heritage of the people of Botswana – this is a country that has no parallel.

But at first glance the options for a safari in Botswana can sometimes appear bewildering. Therefore this guide packages information in an easy and abridged format which travel agents and tour operators will find makes for easy reading and reference. The photographs included give only a small sample of the sights that can be seen and help to make the dream a reality.

Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse - South Africa

Bartholomeus Klip Farmhouse is uniquely - and spectacularly - situated on one of the largest wheat and sheep farms in South Africa’s beautiful Western Cape region.

The Elandskloof mountains tower behind the farm's own Nature Reserve, a South African Natural Heritage Site which preserves 4000hectres of the Cape’s famous shrubland vegetation, known as West Coast Renosterveld.

The late Victorian farmhouse has been meticulously restored, and each room professionally and individually decorated with stylish fabrics and family antiques. The four double rooms have en-suite bathrooms with luxuriously deep ball-and-claw bathtubs, and are supplied with toiletries specially created for Bartholomeus Klip.

A separate suite looks out from its own verandah over the fynbos and up to the mountains. The warm welcome, friendly service and highly-praised food are part of the Bartholomeus Klip experience, with a team of chefs producing the gourmet meals.

However, self-catering is an option at the recently opened Wild Olive House, sited away from the main house, which has accommodation for groups of friends or families of up to eight.

The house has a leafy outdoor living area, private swimming pool and adjoining cottage, and is bright, charming and elegantly comfortable. Guests are taken on game drives twice daily through the reserve to see many different sorts of buck, including eland, springbok and black wildebeest, as well as zebras from the world-famous Quagga Project, and a great variety of wildflowers in the springtime.

The working farm has extensive wheatlands and large flocks of sheep, as well as an impressive 45-strong breeding herd of disease-free Cape buffalo. Apart from exploring the farm and the reserve, activities at Bartholomeus Klip include guided walks, mountain-biking, bird-watching, windsurfing on the dam, swimming in the salt-water pool with its marvellous views, and peacefully relaxing in the extensive gardens.
